gTLDs: A Useful Change, or a Venture Down the Wrong File Path?

To state that opinions have differed over the new gTLDs would be quite an understatement. The controversial programme officially commenced on January 11th this year, when the application window opened. This window closes on April 12th, 2012, and much uncertainty is about whether – or when – a new window will be opened. It seems that ICANN‘s game plan is „to wait and see“. This uncertainty is characteristic of the new programme and it has proven difficult to make any kind of prediction as to the outcome or the consequences that will follow in the wake of this titanic change.
