The application window to apply for a new gTLD closes today, April 20th, at 23:59 UTC. Due to technical difficulties with the TAS application system, the deadline for submitting an application, originally on April 12th, was extended.

ICANN Announces Extended Application Deadline

Due to a technical fault in the TAS application system, detected recently, ICANN has decided to extend the application window for the new gTLDs until April 20th, at 23:59 UTC, thus making up for time lost when the TAS-system was down for maintainance.

556 Applicants for new gTLDs, ICANN States

The window to register as an applicant for the new gTLDs is set to close on March 29th. Although ICANN has been very secretive concerning the names of applicants, they have relayed that 556 applicants have already registered as users in the application system, known as TAS.

The year 2011 was exceptionally good in terms of patents and patent applications - a total of 181,900 PCT applications were filed in 2011, according to WIPO. That corresponds to a 10.7% increase from 2010.
